Why Oaxaca?

Oaxaca: A place of great beauty, diversity and cultural richness can be found in southern Mexico and is famous for its biodiversity, excellent cuisine, artistic splendor and breathtaking landscapes. The musical community is one of the strongest in the country with an extensive history in band and woodwind pedagogy. Oaxaca's historic downtown is colorful, vibrant, and inspiring to all who encounter it. The artistic achievement in Oaxaca is astonishing and is home to some of Mexico's greatest artists including Rufino Tamayo and Francisco Toledo. It is also home to some of Mexico's most renowned composers such as Macedonio Alcalá and Álvaro Carrillo. Benito Juárez, who was born and raised in Oaxaca, became Mexico's first indigenous president in 1861 and is still considered Mexico's best and most beloved president.
One of SA's primary missions is to promote and support underserved talent in Oaxaca as well as all of Mexico that is in need of excellent educational opportunities. We believe that Mexico's university students are some of the most dedicated and passionate students in the world. Their commitment, discipline, and deep sense of gratitude inspire us to provide a platform for them to continue their musical growth and reach their artistic potential.
